I sent a copied playstation game to someone in Europe, and it will undoubtedly pass by the customs.

I've written "Soccer Pictures: 1964, 1965, 1966 and 1967" on the cover to help it pass, but I'm still not sure.

Plus the whole thing is packaged in a bunch of japanese papers packaged in a japanese paperboard postal envelope packaged in a regular 8.5*11 format brown postal envelope taped like crazy.

I hope the customs officers are not going to rip the whole thing open, take the disk and put it in a playstation to test if it can pass...

Oh my god!!

Airports have pirate dogs that can sniff out a burnt cd from 10 miles away.

Are you absolutely, positively sure about this?? How can copied games be detected by dogs? A copied CD is just like another CD except the data is different, right? There was a sticker to fill for the customs and on "contents" I put "CD-Rom" and on "value" I put 5$, since I think that's about the price of a regular CD.

Please be honest here since I really don't know what will happen now.

If they do find out, then what will they do? I really don't think it's bad enough to get any real serious trouble. Maybe a fine?

Nothing will happen, I was just joking around. 99.9% they wont check it. Even if they do, the guards won't even know what a burnt game is. They will see its a cd and they will be like "Ok, next"

Actually, they do have these new things which detect pirated anythings... what they do is the machines automatically opens your bag, checks for anything which can be pirated, insert them into the appropriate machine, and then it will be displayed. If it is pirated the FBI/SWAT will be phoned with the persons address...

I don't know, I just didn't want to pass a few months in jail and have the rest of my life ruined because of a stupid game.

I was also planning on telling the police that I have ennemies in the neighborhood that probably sent the copied game using my adress, and I've actually practiced that speech in front of a mirror. Even tried to think of a new form of handwriting so that they'll compare my new handwriting to the one on the package. I've also started practicing controling my emotions for when I would have to pass on the lie detection machine. I have long hair so I was also planning on getting a haircut tomorrow so that the woman who was at the counter will have a hard time identifying me to the court.

But seriously, what's the worst that can happen to me if they find out? Like if they have a powerful laser that can see data in a cd even with the package, and they'll notice from the files it's a copied PSX game?

Actually, I don't have the FBI problem since I live in Canada. But there are obviously equivalents that do the same thing.

Are you profiting from it?

Cause unless they can prove that you're running a business they won't do crap trust me.

Oh and I wouldn't worry anyways unless it smells funny or someone tips them off or it feels like liquid it wont get opened.

Can anyone else tell I used to work in the international packages section of the uk postal system?

No, I'm not profiting from it. I sent it for free and I refused to get anything in return (he proposed to send me copied DBZ videos or money but I already have all the videos and I don't want to make money out of my friends).

But are you sure they won't do anything if they happen to find the package suspect and actually investigate it? The sticker did say in both french and english "may be opened officially". Maybe was the "Soccer pictures" hand written on the cover of the CD a bit too hard to believe? (I know they'll see that because of their machines).

Illegal or not when was the last time you saw anyone going to jail for giving someone a copy of a game?

Trust me the only people that get prosecuted for it are people who are pumpking these things out by the score and making a decent profit out of it thats all anyone's inerested in.

Secondly. They won't open it.

Thirdly. they won't open it trust me on this will not happen, we got taught to look for three main signs. If it smells of coffee, marzipan or fels like a bomb it'll get inspected and possibly opened. If it doesn't fall under any of those it will not get opened, relax. You have any idea how many packages go through those kinda places? You really think they get a close inspection.

Fourth. If you're still not convinced I've done it, and nothing happened to me. I sent a burned copy of xenogears from the UK to the user slipknotted in australia. Am I in jail?

Just relax you are completly safe.

OK, but it is actually written "CD-ROM" on the customs thing... (I've added the "-ROM" because most people that know a lot on computers just use "CD", so I thought it would maybe tear the suspicion down by a tad bit). But the piracy thing is so big these days that even the girl at the counter of the postal office probably suspected something like "I betcha this guy is sending something illegal--17 years old, long hair, blood all over his t-shirt... the perfect example of a pirate". And yes, I did have blood all over my t-shirt because I fell from my bicycle on the way to the postal office and tried to block with my hands and got my right hand scratched pretty bad, so I holded my t-shirt tight to stop the bleeding and on different places on each grip so I almost looked like I got stabbed. Luckily I had the package in my plastic basket on my bike or else I would have both hands full.

But OK I'm kinda relieved that they probably won't notice but the above post about the guard dogs have given me big chills and I ran downstairs to hide all my PSX games and wondering why such a little thing would ruin my life. I could easily picture the cops on my front door saying "You're under arrest for pirating and copyright violation" and I would have replied "What are you talking about? Pirating? I don't even know how to print stuff so how in the would would I be able to pirate someone?"....

Man I really hope nothing happen my heart is still beating like crazy now.

Well, I too have burned a lot of games but I never send them by mail. Usually I would just rent it and copy it for personal use without telling anyone about it (I could have bought them, but I would never have had the spare money to allow me to get all these games). I've given some friends burned games too, but it was in person. I don't know anything about airport customs or police or stuff like that so I was a bit scared about what they might do when they see a CD come. I don't know about the US, but the police and custom here in Montreal are so official looking that it's really scary. Once I came back from Europe and while my mother was in line to declare lost luggage I passed the thing to meet my father on the other side, then when I went to meet my mother back they wouldn't let me enter when they just SAW me go out! I said I went to see my dad and I have to help my mother and grandmother who almost don't speak a word of french or english and they still wouldn't let me in and told me that I could get arrested if I insisted more.

So actually it's normal for me to really wonder what these scary people would do with someone that sent a pirated game and was stupid enough to put his own adress on the box along with the recipient.

If you're talking about the package I sent it this very morning (post offices are closed on week-ends here).

Hey random, the coffee thing is because coke bags hidden in a box full of coffee grounds can't be detected by dogs, right? I saw it in a movie.
